The part we're born with isn't always the part that best suits our faces. Experimenting with different parts can entirely change your look with little effort, and you should feel encouraged to try new looks. Knowing what looks right for your face shape is your first step. Here are some tips for changing your part.
Heart and Triangle Shaped Face
Is you face widest at the cheeks with a narrow chin? Often, people with this face type have pointed chins as well. You can help soften your chin with a center part to balance the face, but this part works best with longer hair. If you have short hair with a heart-shaped or triangle-shaped face, consider a side part.
A part down the middle is only going to elongate your face further if your shape is long and thin. Side parts work well if you wish to part your hair. Otherwise, sweep your hair back and to the side to help balance a long face.
Oval Shaped Face
Count yourself fortunate if you have an oval-shaped face. You can wear any style part and make it look good. Have fun and experiment with all the styles available to you.
Square Shaped Face
If you have a square-shaped face, you also have a square-shaped forehead and a full, well-defined chin. You need a style that helps soften these angular features, and the best look is a deep side part set just above the arch of your eyebrow. Adding a little soft fringe or curls to the hair around the forehead will also help soften your look. Sweep the hair loosely across your forehead and pin in just above the opposite ear to help create your look.
Round Shaped Face
If your face is round, you will need a curtain of hair to help add the illusion of length and proportion. The best way to achieve this is by choosing a side of your face you favor more and then sweeping your part across the opposite side with a deep set side part on your favored side. Try holding a piece of paper to hide each side of your face if you can't determine which side you like best by looking in the mirror. Also, consider how you hold your head and smile. Some of us only smile with part of our faces. Once you've determined your side, set a deep part of our good side and brush the long curtain of hair forward across the other side. You can pin back or sweep your hair forward on your good side as well.
